This article discusses the Cochrane Review of treatments for morning sickness, which shows there are no truly effective treatments for morning sickness in pregnancy. Although some treatments seem to help selected patients, it appears there is no single method that appears to be really helpful.

It is always important to remember that “proven” refers to scientific studies and outcomes based on the Western medicine structure. Once something is “proven”, then it can be “recommended” by a western practitioner. But just because something has not gone through this scientific paradigm, doesn’t mean that certain treatments can’t be effective for YOU. If you are suffering from nausea during pregnancy, acupuncture and especially herbs might be tremendously effective. Your body is changing so much, and the amount of hormones coursing through your body that weren’t before has increased exponentially, and the body is constantly trying to adjust and reach balance. Traditional Chinese medicine is effective at treating hormonal issues, and my philosophy in my practice is that acupuncture and TCM can help rebalance the body’s natural “qi”, or inherent healing energy flow, to prevent dis-ease and promote health. Many of my patients have experienced relief from their pregnancy nausea. One of my patients says: “I was pregnant with my second child and suffering from all day nausea.
